Board to Fill Vacancy through Appointment

At its March 19, 2012 Special Meeting, the Board of Education approved a provisional appointment process to fill the Board seat that was recently vacated by Board Member Russell Y. Coronado.  The process includes the establishment of a Paper Screening Committee and procedure to paper screen applicants for eligibility and recommend candidates to be interviewed by the Board.  The Paper Screening Committee will consist of the Board President and a Board Member, and representatives from the Parent Leadership Group.

The Board invites eligible community members to submit a letter of intent, the completed application, and two letters of recommendation to Soreli Norton, Assistant to the Superintendent and the Board of Education, 84 East “J” Street, Chula Vista, CA 91910.  Applications must be received no later than April 11, 2012, at 12:00 p.m.  All applications will be date and time stamped. For a copy of the application, please click here.  

To be eligible for consideration, applicants must be “18 years of age or older, a citizen of the state, a resident of the school district, a registered voter, and who is not disqualified by the Constitution or laws of the state from holding a civil office.”  (Education Code 35107)

At a Special Meeting scheduled for April 23, 2012, the Board will interview candidates, appoint the new Board member, and administer the Oath of Office.  Finalists must be present to be considered. They will be asked to provide a three-minute presentation, and answer questions from Board members.
