Schools’ 9/11 Observances Were Moving

Flags at District schools flew at half-staff on Patriot Day, Tuesday, September 11 in honor of those who died as a result of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Schools across the District held observances in a variety of ways. With a mix of somber and patriotic mood music, Sunnyside Elementary School honored 9/11 with a ceremony, followed by its annual Jog-A-Thon. Red, white and blue were the colors of the day, as students and parent volunteers decorated the campus with signs and messages honoring the victims and heroes of 9/11. Organizer and teacher Robyn Higgins and Principal Dawn Minutelli (both in photos) joined the joggers. Students took turns taking laps in the jog-a-thon by grade level.
