Talk about a cold welcome!

Forgive students and staff at Hazel Goes Cook Elementary for the chilly reception they gave on Sept. 19 to Executive Director Matthew Tessier and Superintendent Francisco Escobedo, Ed.D. Cook sixth grade students Soleil Alvarado and Jet Jackson dumped buckets of ice water on Tessier and Dr. Escobedo as part of the ALS Association “Ice Bucket Challenge.”

The event raises funds for the fight against Lou Gehrig’s Disease and helps educate participants, health professionals, and the general public about the disease. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord.

At Cook, Soleil challenged her sixth grade teachers. In turn they challenged Principal Gabriela Llamas and staff. Friday’s event culminated in the dousing of Tessier and Dr. Escobedo. Judging by the photos, Dr. Escobedo got the worst of it!
